Morning Jo’s Run Club: All Faces, All Paces
Back in September 2017, Austin’s running community was shaken by repeated attacks on women. Out of that moment, Morning Jo’s Run Club was born—founded to create a safe, welcoming space where runners of all backgrounds and abilities could lace up and find strength in numbers.
Their motto? “All Faces, All Paces.” And they live it every Tuesday morning. Whether you’re walking your first mile, chasing a Boston qualifier, or prepping for a 100-miler, you’ll find your crew here. A strong team of pacers makes it easy to fall in step—from 7-minute miles to walkers—so no one runs (or walks) alone.
The group meets at Jo’s Coffee on South Congress at 6am sharp. Each week kicks off with a route rundown, pacer introductions, and a quick group photo in the dark. After miles are logged, the vibe shifts from strides to sips as runners refuel with coffee and community on Jo’s patio.
What keeps people coming back? Camaraderie. Members often say it’s the best way to start a Tuesday—moving your body, catching up with friends, and grabbing a cup of coffee before most of Austin even hits snooze.
Over the years, Morning Jo’s has been more than a run club—it’s a launchpad for growth. Runners who once felt intimidated by the sport have found their stride, setting and achieving big goals like half, full, and ultra-marathons.
For newcomers, the advice is simple: just show up once. With sub-groups for every pace and a crew of friendly faces, it’s far less intimidating than you’d think.
And for the founder? The post-run ritual is non-negotiable: a MOAT (Mocha Oat Latte) and an Arnold Palmer. Call it fuel, call it celebration—it’s the perfect cap to a Tuesday morning well spent.
